Phoenix Gayles has over 14 years of professional teaching experience in voice and piano, serving as the Primary Vocal and Acting Coach for St. Catherine’s School of Fine Arts,  Piano and voice instructor at My Music Skool, Vocal Coach and Director of the University of South Florida’s Honors College Philharmonic Choir and as a Graduate Assistant to the Vocal and Operatic degree programs at USF. She is very experienced in teaching all styles of music, whether it be classical, musical theater, pop, country, rock, or hip-hop with both voice and piano.  Also, for students who strive to pursue a stage career, Phoenix has an extensive background in theatrical and dramatic techniques.

Phoenix’s teaching philosophy is based on an individual structured teaching method. She believes that “creating music, in all its forms, is an incredibly personal experience. I believe that every student of music is unique in both their learning style and musical journey. It is my job, as their teacher, to create a safe and enthusiastic environment for them to explore both their personal and professional levels of achievement. I believe in setting standards and expectations that are high enough to encourage students to achieve goals that they thought were not possible. I also believe it is not always the success of those goals that really matter but rather the journey each student takes to truly discover their own voice and artistry. I think that any student has the ability to succeed with the right guidance and tools and I do everything in my power to give that to each and every one of my students, through a very fun, upbeat and encouraging learning environment.”

Phoenix Gayles received her Masters of Music degree from the University of South Florida with a concentration in Vocal Performance.  During and after her college studies Phoenix pursued a classical performance career and was met with great success.  Seen in leading roles across the country, some of her most noted operatic roles have been Micaela in Carmen, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Hannah Glawari in The Merry Widow, Mrs. Ford in The Merry Wives of Windsor and the title role in Suor Angelica. And on the other end of the musical spectrum, she has sung for years in various Pop, funk, and reggae groups. Phoenix is also very experienced in musical theater, Phoenix has been seen as Rizzo in Grease, Lucinda in Into The Woods and Sharron Graham in the Masterclass. As an accomplished vocal artist she has been awarded 1st place in the Suncoast Opera Guild Competition, 2nd place in both the Metropolitan National Council and Denver Lyric Guild competitions.

My son started taking piano lessons from Ashley and I was so impressed with her, I've been taking lessons too! My son is also going to start taking guitar lessons after the first of the year as well. I also appreciate the prompt responses when I have questions and the affordable prices. I highly recommend Sollohub School of Music!

Sollohub Music has provided a fun, energetic environment for me to learn music. They have always been very professional and flexible, which is much appreciated with crazy work/school schedules. The instructors are very talented, devoted individuals with not only a passion for music, but a strong desire to share it with others!

My daughter has been studying with Jeff since before she was a teenager, and he has been an amazing influence on her. He is unfailingly enthusiastic, and has been very accommodating of a family's ever-changing schedule. I heartily recommend him to anyone who loves music and wants to learn.
